////ulrich medical welcomes international spinal surgery experts for event focused on sharing experiences and knowledge transfer

Surgeons from around the world will come to ulrich medical in Ulm for the fifth Spine Academy Meeting to get up to date with the latest developments in spinal surgery.

Ulm, June 2018. From June 20-22, surgeons from around the world will be attending Spine Academy in Ulm. They will visit medical technology manufacturer and specialist for spinal implants ulrich medical to learn about the latest research and developments in the spinal surgery field. The Spine Academy Meeting is a successful, established academic platform organized by ulrich medical, which includes lectures by renowned speakers and focuses on allowing international participants to learn from each other’s experiences.

45 spinal surgeons – covering a full range of spinal specialities – from 13 countries will attend the CME-certified training event at the family company’s Ulm headquarters. Over the course of three packed days, they will benefit from the expertise of top experts and train spinal surgery techniques. They will look at case studies and take part in hands on workshops led by nationally and internationality renowned spine specialists, such as Prof. Dr. Marcus Richter (St. Josefs Hospital Wiesbaden), PD Dr. Johannes Woitzik(Charité Berlin) and Prof. Dr. Muwaffak Abdulhak (Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, USA). For over two hours each day, they will also have the opportunity to discuss their own cases as well as cases of their colleagues in small groups of eight, moderated and supervised by the experts.

‘Made in Germany’ quality thanks to international exchanges

Each of the three days is dedicated to a different topic. The programme includes thoracolumbar and cervical fusion strategies in trauma, revision and tumor, as well as minimally invasive fusion techniques for the thoracolumbar spine. Indications, approaches and operation techniques will be presented, compared and then carefully practised in individual blocks. Participants can expect a varied programme which will not shy away from outlining the advantages and disadvantages of current methods of surgery. In fact, Christoph Ulrich, managing partner at ulrich medical, sees this atmosphere of open debate as one of the key reasons for the success of the event, “It is always exciting to see the enthusiasm, practical experience and thirst for knowledge the participants bring to the case studies and workshops. We are proud that our event is able to facilitate this interdisciplinary, extremely international cross-border exchange.” And, adds the great grandson of the original company founder Heinrich C. Ulrich, insights from such meetings are of great benefit for developing innovative spinal surgery solutions. Successful examples include the development of the obelisc vertebral body replacement system and the uCentum and neon3 rod-screw systems.

Ulm as a centre of attraction for international spinal surgeons

The success of the Spine Academy concept can be gauged by the number of participants over the last four years. To date, a total of 190 surgeons from all over the world have made their way to Ulm. If the excellent feedback from participants is anything to go by, that number is likely to rise significantly over the next few years. “The Spine Academy Meeting offers an excellent opportunity to meet up with surgeons from other countries and other specialities. Finding out what approaches to treating spinal problems are being used by your peers is both interesting and important. These discussions gave me lots of interesting new ideas for my own practice,” relates Prof. Dr. Fayyad A. Farhat, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Union Clinic in Moscow. This and other opinions, plus a near 100% recommendation rate show that it is not just ulrich medical’s products which have spread the company’s name far and wide internationally, but also its academic platform.

The concept has now been successfully implemented by distribution partners in Italy and the company’s Russian partner is this year planning to run its first Spine Academy for Russian users.

The next opportunity to share experiences and enjoy an international dialogue on spinal surgery is this year’s Eurospine in Barcelona from September 19–21 and the 5th Thoracolumbal Spine Course in Berlin from December 12–15.
