Ulm, September 2018. In 1978, ulrich medical was one of the first medical technology companies to introduce spinal implants in Germany in the form of the USIS rod-screw-system, which it developed and produced itself, thereby laying the foundation for a made-in-Germany success story now celebrating its 40^th anniversary in 2018. Since then, the company has successfully marketed a total of 25 systems, which are used around the world in all areas of spinal surgery. As part of its anniversary celebrations, ulrich medical would like to acknowledge and thank its employees, customers and partners for their decisive contributions to the company’s success.

ulrich medical’s first self-manufactured USIS spinal implant launched in 1978 was just the first of a long line of successful products. ulrich medical’s obelisc, an infinitely expandable vertebral body replacement, for example, has been regarded as the world’s best-known and most successful vertebral body replacement implant for 14 years. Other significant products that are also developed and manufactured at the Ulm site include the neon^3TM and cosmicMIA^TM rod-screw-systems and the uCentum™ universal system. The former is used to stabilize the cervical spine and now represents the third generation of this successful implant system thanks to the inclusion of further innovative product features. cosmicMIA is a rod-screw-system for the thoracic to sacral spine that is used for dynamic spinal stabilization. This product is also a next-generation successor to the original cosmic system. The hinge joints in the screws maintain some of the mobility and function of the affected spinal segment. It has therefore become as firmly established in the marketplace as the uCentum rod-screw-system, which only requires a basic set of instruments and can be used universally from the thoracic to the lumbosacral spine as well as in open and percutaneous applications.
