More than ten years of consistent sales growth at ulrich medical

Ulm, May 2019ulrich medical can look back on a successful financial year in 2018. To heighten the efficiency and sustainability of production at its plant in Ulm, this medical technology manufacturer is investing over two million euro. The specialist in spinal systems and contrast media injectors is on course for continuing future success with innovative, high-quality products “Made in Germany”.

A continuously expanding worldwide customer base of surgeons, radiologists, medical technical assistants, surgical staff and clinical representatives trust in the high-tech solutions offered by ulrich medical. Over the past 40 years in the field of spinal systems, this family business has successfully brought a total of 25 implant systems to market. The company has meanwhile been recording consistent sales growth for more than ten years.

Summing up the past year, Christoph Ulrich, Managing Partner in ulrich medical, commented: “2018 was once again a successful year for our company. We matched the excellent level of sales recorded in the previous year and exceeded our projected profit.” In order to keep pace with its sustained growth, at the beginning of this year ulrich medical purchased two CNC long-turning machines with a total value of over 700,000 euro. One is already in operation, with the second due for delivery and installation at the beginning of May. The new equipment will enable the company to produce higher unit numbers in less time.

Another important investment involves the installation of a thermal power plant in Ulm, which will enable the company to generate environmentally friendly electricity and heat to meet its own needs. “With the decentralized demand-oriented generation of power and low CO2 emissions, we are making an important contribution to climate protection,” said CEO Klaus Kiesel. Further installations, including a new final cleaning system for the production of implants, will follow in the course of 2019. “It is our successful development over recent years that has made these investments possible. We are now well prepared for the future.”

Growing workforce underscores success

The rapid pace of growth is also evident in the company’s workforce. Over the past five years the number of employees has risen by 47 percent. ulrich medical currently employs over a workforce of over 380 at its headquarters in Ulm. This reflects a sustained development as a steadily expanding employer in the Ulm region with a clear commitment to Germany as a center of development and manufacturing.

ulrich medical supplies spinal systems and contrast media injectors to over 50 countries worldwide. With an export quota of 69 percent, this Ulm-based medical technology manufacturer is four percentage points ahead of the industry average measured by the German Medical Technology Association (BVMed). In France, Europe’s second-largest medical technology market, since October 2017 the company has been distributing its contract media injectors via a wholly-owned subsidiary. Within just one year, the company has increased its market share to 5.8 percent. The importance of this sales subsidiary based in Toulouse is underscored by the decision to increase nominal capital from 200,000 euro to one million euro. Following an excellent start in the French market, the company is keen to pursue the global growth already seen in recent years.
